JavaView. Discrete catenoid. A catenoid is a 3D minimal surface. Its unique property is that its mean curvature is zero everywhere. It was discovered by L Euler in 1744.
Post script: When I was a kid I used to pic through the glossy women’s magazines on my mother’s table. In between the beautiful – but weird – looking models – I was fascinated by the jewelry ads of the like of Boucheron, Cartier, Van Cleef and other – often odd black and white pencil sketches with a little drop of color in the middle – a blue, green, red gem – whatever… Today I feel like Marcel Proust!
