August 1 -213. August I’ll be exploring the EscherLike program.

EscherLike was created by Geraut Bousquet along with other math-imaging software and is available on the hypatiasoft site. The program has a library of 93 different tilings, 17 variations for each tiling. Tiling or tessellation is a plane-filling arrangement of figures which cover the plane. The patterns formed by periodic tilings have been categorized into 17 wallpaper groups. J Kepler documented tessellations in several papers and later, crystallographer Y Fyodorov proved that every periodic tiling of the plane features one of seventeen different groups of isometries. The origin of tessellation goes as far back as the Summerain culture (4000 BC).
